ACHIEVERS AND KIDS SHINE! PROGRAMS
at the
INCARCERATED MOTHERS PROGRAM

(Internship Description)

The youth programs (Achievers and Kids Shine!) are offered to girls and boys ages 9 to 18 who have a mother who is currently incarcerated, or was incarcerated. As volunteers and interns, you face a specific set of duties. In addition, there are several expectations we have from our volunteers. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with them Evaluations and references will be based on the degree to which you fulfill these duties and meet these expectations.

Duties: These are the concrete tasks that the position requires.
1. Establish consistent and positive relationship with members of assigned families.
2. Pick up and drop off assigned youth from their homes to the program
3. Facilitate program activities and group dynamics
4. Maintain regular communication with families through phone calls and home visits
5. Facilitate individual weekend sessions with assigned youth
6. Attend and participate in monthly trainings, supervision, and planning meetings
7. Complete progress notes and reimbursement sheets in a timely and professional manner.

Expectations: These are the more intangible qualities that are vital to the type of contribution this program requires
· Prior experience working with youth
· Sensitivity to diversity within group (including age, gender, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and background)
· Willingness to be active and engaged both one-on-one and in a group setting
· Responsible and mature exercising sound judgment and actively seeking supervision when in doubt
· Commitment to youth, families, and program as demonstrated through attendance, participation, and consistency
· Desire to keep learning, growing, and having fun

In order for this program to be a success, it is necessary for interns to be available and prompt for all Saturday activities and scheduled meetings. Students who are interested in an internship at Incarcerated Mothers Program working with Achievers and Kids Shine! should contact the Teen Program Coordinator, Alexandra Badia at (212) 410-4200, ext 134. Resumes can be faxed to (212) 410-4345.

Thanks!
Sounds like an interesting opportunity! In the future, you might want to post opportunities like this in the database -- this way they will remain available and will be searchable long after your update page is no longer highlighted on the site. Look forward to hearing how the project progresses - maybe you want to post updates in the Projects system
